Packaged plants raising the bar for sustainability in Africa, the rising sea levels caused by climate change are an urgent reminder of the need for immediate action. With global temperatures climbing steadily, polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, causing ocean waters to swell. This leaves coastal regions worldwide at greater risk of devastating floods.

The impacts are staggering. Millions of people face displacement, fertile lands risk being submerged, and fragile ecosystems are under threat. This isn’t a distant challenge—it’s a pressing crisis that demands swift and decisive action.

But rising sea levels are just one consequence of climate change. Another critical challenge lies in managing water supply and sanitation infrastructure. This requires innovative, forward-thinking solutions that engage diverse stakeholders and overcome economic and geographic divides.

To improve water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste management, we must cut through bureaucratic barriers, reduce over-regulation, and address disparities between urban and rural regions—particularly in Africa, where these divides are most evident.

One promising solution is wastewater reuse. In South Africa, the Water Services Act already supports reusing wastewater for non-potable purposes. But there’s even greater potential ahead. Wastewater reuse could play a crucial role in creating more sustainable and dependable water systems, benefiting communities at all levels. A decentralized approach brings this opportunity to even the most remote areas, reducing water disruptions and yielding significant long-term returns.

At MEB, we’re fully committed to addressing these critical challenges. By leveraging the best technologies available, we create tailored, sustainable solutions that meet the pressing demands of water management while preserving the environment.

From tackling the effects of climate change to meeting the region’s growing water needs, our mission is clear—to pave the way for a resilient, secure, and equitable future.

Together, we can make a difference.

Case Study

A revolutionary approach to water supply

To cope with a crippling and prolonged drought crisis, MEB installed a containerized desalination plant at Richards Bay, South Africa. The project was completed in just seven months. The containers were easily transported to the designated location.1
