Municipal Wastewater Treatment

A small white modular water treatment unit labeled “Aspiral” sits on a concrete pad, surrounded by gravel, fencing, and trees under a partly cloudy sky. Designed for Municipal Wastewater Treatment, this compact system blends seamlessly into its environment while providing advanced water purification solutions.

Table of Contents

Municipal wastewater treatment is the process of removing contaminants from used water before it is safely returned to the environment or reused. This includes water from residential toilets and sinks, stormwater runoff, and effluent from commercial and light industrial sources connected to the municipal sewer system.

Untreated wastewater contains a wide range of harmful substances pathogens, heavy metals, nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus, and organic matter. Without treatment, these pollutants compromise rivers, lakes, and groundwater, posing serious risks to public health and biodiversity.

The core goal of wastewater treatment is straightforward: clean the water enough that it can re-enter the water cycle without causing harm. But achieving that goal has become increasingly complex as population growth, climate change, and tightening regulations raise the bar for what “clean enough” means.

Taking the Next Step Toward Smarter Wastewater Management

Municipal wastewater treatment sits at the intersection of public health, environmental protection, and fiscal responsibility. Getting it right requires not just technical know-how, but a strategic partner who understands the full complexity of what municipalities face.

At Meb we work with municipalities to design and implement robust wastewater treatment solution like our MABR Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor that are cost-effective, compliant, and built for the future. If your municipality is evaluating infrastructure upgrades, exploring energy recovery options, or simply looking for a clearer picture of where your systems stand, at Meb we can help.

Contact our team at Meb today to discuss your municipality’s wastewater challenges and explore what a tailored solution could look like for your community.

A revolutionary approach to water supply

To cope with a crippling and prolonged drought crisis, MEB installed a containerized desalination plant at Richards Bay, South Africa. The project was completed in just seven months. The containers were easily transported to the designated location.1
