The future of water custodianship, by 2030 60% of the world’s urban population growth will come from developing countries, and a significant portion of that population will be under 18. This demographic shift presents a critical opportunity. To achieve true sustainability, we must give young people an active role in addressing the climate emergency at local, national, and global levels. They are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are the key drivers of change today.

To harness the potential of Africa’s youth as stewards of water resources, targeted investments in education and capacity-building are essential.

Equipping young people with knowledge about water conservation, management practices, and sustainable development enables them to address pressing challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, and climate-induced droughts. Furthermore, fostering innovation through access to technology and supporting youth-led initiatives can empower them to develop localized solutions that are both effective and scalable. By integrating these efforts into policy frameworks and community programs, we can ensure that the next generation has the tools and resources necessary to safeguard water systems for future generations.

Empowering the Next Generation

Africa’s youth are willing and prepared to contribute to sustainable, carbon-conscious solutions that protect our environment. The future innovators and researchers for the water sector will come from this passionate generation. However, their potential can only be unlocked if they have the right support and opportunities.

That’s where MEB comes in. We aim to create safer urban environments by empowering young people to develop and implement innovative water treatment solutions. By providing training and resources, we enable them to take on social and environmental leadership roles in their communities.

Upskilling for a Sustainable Future

Supported by our global partners and managed by trained local staff, we are committed to upskilling and supporting young people across Southern Africa. Our goal is to create future employment opportunities centered around providing effective water treatment solutions.

We believe the only way to guarantee the best possible service is to train the best people for the worst-case scenarios. By investing in Africa’s youth, we are investing in a more sustainable and resilient future for all.
